Botsy Setup and Operation
We have two attachment systems.
Botsy attaches to a wall using 3M Command Strips. 3M recommends to use their product on smooth sealed and finished surfaces; including painted, stained or varnished wood, glass, painted cinder blocks, plaster, metal, and painted walls. 3M recommends fresh paint to be fully cured (check paint can for manufacturer’s cure time) before using Command products.
For any other surfaces, we recommend using adjustable poles to lean the wall drawing robot against the surface. For rough surfaces, see the next question.
It depends. We offer a special Botsy Pen Holder for rough surfaces like cinder blocks, splatter, popcorn, orange-peel texture, cheap plywood, and outside textured walls. Add Rough Surface Pen Holder at checkout – if you plan to draw on rough surfaces. We also recommend using Botsy Adjustable Poles as an attachment method. Make sure to use markers with a durable tip to draw on such surfaces.
Botsy cannot draw on bricks or extreme stucco. If you are not sure, send us a picture of your wall texture.
We have two attachment systems.
The wall drawing machine comes with 6 Floaters (hangers) that you attach to a wall using 3M Command Strips. The Floaters hold the horizontal track that Botsy mounts to. The setup takes 5-10 minutes and the installation is damage-free to the wall. When the design is finished, simply pull off the 3M Command Strips.
The second patent-pending attachment system uses Adjustable Poles. The poles can extend up to 12 feet and the system leans against a wall.
You can use different types of drawing tools. Botsy’s Pen Holder can hold a drawing utensil between 0.35″ and 0.86″ (9mm to 22mm) in diameter. Use markers, pens, pencils, Sharpies, whiteboard markers, chalk markers, industrial-grade Sharpies, glass pens, or washable markers. A wide variety of pens, pencils, and markers are compatible with Botsy. You can buy popular sets in your local retail stores, in specialized hobby stores, or online.
Choose your marking instrument depending on surface type: paper, painted drywall, plywood, concrete wall, etc. If you plan to draw on rough surfaces, make sure to choose a marker with a durable tip in order to keep its shape and not turn into a “mushroom”. Use markers with point tips, not with chisel tips.
Yes, you can. Botsy’s software has a pause function. You can pause the drawing at any time.
You can draw with one color at a time. You can pause the robot during drawing and switch markers for multi-color effect. You can also create multiple layers in the vector file and switch markers between each drawing. For example, one layer will contain only red lines, etc.
No, Botsy cannot print and can not color in. We designed the wall drawing machine as a tool to help mural artists, woodworkers, and DIYers to outline their artworks and designs. This tool enhances people’s creativity – it does not replace people. The final results are hand-painted murals, hand-cut wood elements, hand-made stained glass, and hand made-signs. At the end, you add more value to your artwork because you made it yourself. Botsy helps to save time, finish projects faster, and do it accurately on a large scale.
